Nature Photography across the Raleigh, Durham, and Cary area

Hi all - it’s Shannon, your Raleigh area portrait and nature photographer! Today’s blog post will focus on my latest wildlife adventures.

One of my favorite parts of being both a studio and wildlife photographer is that I get to balance two worlds—the creativity of posed portraits and the unpredictability of nature.

This is the second year, I’ve had the great honor of volunteering with the Carolinas Butterfly Monitoring Program, conducting butterfly surveys at Bond Park in Cary, North Carolina. While walking my route, I was quick enough to capture this incredible Green Heron hunting by the Beaver pond.

And my luck didn’t stop there - on the drive home, I quickly pulled over to get a shot of this Turkey Vulture cleaning up our roadsides by consuming roadkill!

On another birding adventure, I was out ebirding when my friend said, “Shannon, I think there’s a snake in this tree!!” and sure enough, there was a black ratsnake hunting up this tree.

I can’t be the only one that feels this would make an amazing print to hang in a bathroom or office!?

I absolutely adore migration season and the masked Common Yellowthroats are a big part of that.

When I share my nature photos, I get so many shocked comments from friends and family. These are moments I want everyone to have the opportunity to experience.

If you’re interested in a wildlife tour of the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, please feel free to reach out and discuss what might fit your needs!

Another option is purchasing some of my wildlife photography. You can view my entire gallery here.

Overwhelmed by the number of photos? I have them sorted by name species name! You can also scroll my website or instagram to better narrow it own.

I typically recommend metal prints or canvases for wildlife photos!

I hope you’re able to get outside this week!

Shannon
