Raleigh North Carolina Birding and Wildlife Tours

P.S. Barred Owls don’t say “Whoo whoo” but rather “Who Cooks For You - Who Cooks For You All!

Don’t get me started on what Bald Eagles actually sound like !!

Whooo I am

My name is Shannon Schlater and I have a Master’s of Science degree in biology with my thesis research on Red-tailed Hawk habitat selection in agricultural habitats.

Prior to that, I received my undergraduate degree in zoology, have interned in Hawaii studying birds and rats, interned in Indiana studying endangered frogs, and also volunteered at wildlife rehabs. I currently volunteer with the Carolinas Butterfly Monitoring Program, eBird, use iNaturalist, and am a nature and portrait photographer.

I love teaching people all of the knowledge I have acquired over my lifetime and there is nothing better than bonding over the joy of sharing the outdoor space with wildlife.

I know the ins and outs of all the locations in the Raleigh area and can assist visitors in finding their goal species - whether you’re a photographer or a lifelong birder or just an outdoor enthusiast!

Possible species greatly depend on the season. Popular goal species include Barred Owls, Painted Bunting, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Beavers, Indigo Bunting, Blue Grosbeak, Snakes & Turtles, Great Egrets, Warblers, Bald Eagles, and so on!

Tours can be mornings or evening, again depending on the goal species.

Prices start at $200 and depend on the size of the group, number of locations, length of the tour, and if you need a ride or are able to meet at the location.
