First up, a male Barred Owl, seen sitting on a dead log above a creek, the morning sun hitting his face, while his mate incubates their eggs in a dead tree nearby. Cary, North Carolina.
This female Barred Owl sits on her eggs in a dead tree. She blends right in, camoflaging herself and her young.
Another female incubates her eggs in a much larger dead tree along the trail. Owls often nest in dead tree cavities - so don’t be so quick to remove a dead tree from your property, you just may attract an owl pair.
A male Barred Owl sits in the evergreen trees to hide himself from passerbys along the trail.
Not to be overlooked, a pair of Red-Shouldered Hawks share a frog for lunch - their nest in a large tree nearby.
Much easier to overlook, but cute as a button, a Carolina Chickadee carries moss in it’s beak to prepare its nest for eggs to be laid on.
