Wildlife and Nature of the Research Triangle in June
Happy July All! It’s Shannon your Raleigh & Research Triangle Portrait and Nature Photographer!
I have been BUSY. Family shoots, High School Seniors, and providing my very first wildlife tour. Even so, I have been outside on the search for some beautiful wildlife photos. Take a look below at the nature photos I have added to my gallery from June.
I rarely see my neighborhood Barred Owls sitting right next to each other so this event called for a run back to the house to grab my camera. Hunting in the creek together, how sweet. If you want to see their two babies - make sure you scroll to the bottom!
When you’re out on a walk it always pays to pause and look closely at what’s around you. You may just find something as small and cute as the Cope’s Gray Tree Frog above.
OR
The big and beautiful Turkey Vulture below
Turkey Vultures are so important for our ecosystem by removing decomposing materials. No need to fear - their talons aren’t sharp enough to go after your pets or chickens!
My first wildlife photo tour focused on finding the above Painted Bunting for another birding photographer while they were visiting Raleigh!
We found this Painted Bunting in the first 15 minutes of the tour!
I know, I know. I have posted this Black Racer before and guess what, today I am going to post him twice. First a side profile.
And how about a straight on look so we can get a good look of his face and underside.
Cedar Waxwing christmas ornaments anyone?
These gregarious birds are always swooping around in large groups and voraciously guzzling down berries.
The Yellow-Crowned Night Herons have been an absolute favorite of mine.
They will spend the whole day by the water hunting crawfish.
These Carolina Chickadees were bouncing around in the wetlands of Cary. I absolutely love this spot for photography.

A Great Spangled Fritillary! What a fitting name.
This individual is nectaring on common milkweek at Brumley Nature Preserve!
I can’t get enough of the Eastern Box Turtles! Keep an eye out for them near and on roads! You can carry them across in the direction they are heading!
Two baby owls! These guys were completely asleep and at peace during the evening sunset. I always make sure to stay quiet and make my owl visits very brief so as not to disturb them.
I am so grateful to be able to share this space with them.
If you are interested in purchasing any of the photos above, they have been added to my gallery, here.
I can also show you some already printed options in my Raleigh studio - just let me know if you have a specific photo in mind before you stop in so I know I have it in stock!
Not able to purchase anything at this time? No problem, leave a comment and let me know which is your favorite!
